Causes of Joint Pain

Why have I got joint pain?

There are many different reasons why people get joint pain.

These range from local causes, such as injuries, soft tissue problems, or degenerative problems, through gout and chronic pain syndromes, to autoimmune rheumatic diseases.

Rheumatology mainly deals with autoimmune conditions; these occur when the body's immune system goes wrong, and causes inflammation to occur. This gives rise to pain, stiffness and swelling in the joints, as well as other symptoms such as fatigue. Symptoms can move around, and vary from day-to-day.
